Year 7 Art-Texture/Mark making

Coral reef has inspired many artists. The rich range of colours and organic shapes offer a variety of textures.

Look at the shapes of the coral reef.

Begin by drawing the outlines in pencil.

Don’t be afraid to overlap the outlines in places. This will make your composition more interesting.

When you are happy with your composition add some watercolour over the top. If you don’t have any paints, use coffee, as explained in previous posts.

the painting doesn’t have to be neat or necessarily within the lines.

Look at the variety of different marks in the composition above. Draw some of these lines and marks onto your coral reef drawings. Black pen provides more of a contrast but any colour pen will be adequate.
