Task 1 – WEALTH – look again at the maps showing GDP per capita and Total Population (below)

Watch the video below and answer the following questions about the maps above

➀ Compare the two maps – are there any patterns?​
➁ Look at the map of GDP distribution. Which countries show extreme differences in wealth?​
➂ Do you think paying massive interest on loans is a cause or consequence of uneven development? Justify your answer. ​
➃ How could wealth inequality affect the future development of different countries?​

Task 2 – HEALTH – look again at the map showing child mortality (below)

Watch the video below and answer the following questions about the maps above

➄ Describe the relationship between global patterns of wealth and health​ (map from task 1, and this map in task 2, plus information from the video)
➅ Give 2 detailed reasons why wealth and health could be linked
➆ Is Child Mortality or Death Rate a better indicator of development? Justify your answer.​

Task 3 – MIGRATION – Look again at the map of net migration (below) and then watch the video and answer the questions

➇ Describe the pattern of net migration.​ The countries with the highest net migration are… The countries with more people emigrating than immigrating (- numbers) are…
➈ Explain the pattern of net migration. This might be because… (why are people leaving? Why are people going there?)​

Task 4 – Explain how uneven development can negatively affect countries (write a paragraph or two)

EXTENSION – try writing an extended answer to this question:

Uneven development between countries is mainly caused by physical factors. Do you agree with this statement?​
Justify your decision.​
