Year 9/10 Textiles
Recycling textiles is fun, ethical and can produce some exciting outcomes.
However, what if you don’t have the means to sew?
Collect some different patterned textiles.
Cut the fabric into strips. Make sure its wide enough to fold under the edges. Use a kitchen roll or something similar to create a mould, then lay the strips of fabric, lengthways, like the example on the right.
Weaving is a method of textile production in which two distinct sets of yarns or threads are interlaced at right angles to form a fabric or cloth.
Add horizontal strips to create a plain weave like the diagram above.
Here’s a finished example. Find your own mould to create an individual container of your own.
