Year 9/10 Textiles

Sun printing, by textile artist, Lisa Walton.

Sun printing, or heliographic art is a process in which the power of the sun is harnessed to produce interesting results. Heat filled textile paints are applied to fabric and, while the fabric is still wet, found objects, such as stencils, leaves or feathers are placed on top.

Collect a variety of natural objects, leaves, in particular, in different sizes and shapes create effective outlines.

Add one or more coloured paint to some plain fabric. Silk paints produce excellent results, however, if you don’t have any, look at last weeks blog for information on making your own dyes. Arrange the found objects in the sun.

The outlines of the objects are transferred to the fabric.
